Every day, thousands of New Yorkers languish in immigration jails while they face deportation. Ripped from their families and communities, immigrant New Yorkers can spend months and even years locked up while they fight to remain in the United States. Because of harsh immigration laws, many never get the chance to ask a judge for bond. Even for those who get the chance, bonds are often so expensive that immigrants either cannot afford to pay or are forced to turn to exploitative, for-profit bondsmen to get out of detention.
The New York Immigrant Freedom Fund is a program of the Brooklyn Community Bail Fund that pays immigration bonds for community members who are unable to afford it themselves. By freeing immigrants, we are reuniting New Yorkers with their families and radically improving their chances of winning their immigration cases. Working in close partnership with community-based organizations, we are committed to building power in immigrant communities as we fight to end immigration detention. Our partners include African Communities Together, Black Alliance for Just Immigration, Families for Freedom, Immigrant Defense Project, Make the Road NY, and Surveillance Technology Oversight Project.
If you or a loved one is currently in immigration detention and have been granted an immigration bond that you cannot afford, you may be eligible for our Fund. Please click here to find out if we can help.
